Why Secular Monasticism?
Monasticism has roots in many cultures, and the unifying idea behind these is that through some solitary, contemplative process, an individual can seek meaning more effectively.
Seeking is an important concept in monasticism, as the Monk’s way is a journey, not a destination. Today our experience is often one of saturation. The poem by Wordsworth, The World is Too Much With Us, states clearly the price of the age of commerce and industry, however now, not only are we deep into the getting and spending, but are also swimming through competitive forms of attention-grabbing media, which makes focusing on important things that we can actually achieve a substantial challenge. So much of what we routinely experience is a meta-reality, a digital glaze over the things that impact us directly.
I conceived Secular Monasticism as a way to manage life in these times. Not to get away or escape, although there must be deliberate filtering, but a more effective way to live a real and meaningful life amongst the noise.
I glean wisdom from Ancient and Modern monastic traditions around the globe to help me function productively and more peacefully in this chaotic world. My approach is pragmatic, without the unseen, the mystical, and spiritual, and it is quite achievable. I hope to share these ideas with you; it’s a part of my effort to share good things in the world.

Desert Gardens Oasis rules:
1 - Desert Gardens Oasis Monastery is a place in the mountains and Chihuahua Desert for people who would like to experience secluded life of a Monk, away from corrupted life of big cities! Our monastery is for people who seek spiritual retreat from today's busy life.
2 Our Monastery is open to all people.
3 Our Monastery has waiting list on the basis of first come first serve.
4 We promote learning of wisdom, compassion, work building new hermit dens for our new monks, spiritual connection to our Universe, Tolerance, Meditation, Yoga, Happiness and seclusion from busy life.
5 Everybody at our monastery is required to have high morals, ethics, compassion and follow the state and local laws.
6 Anybody violating our rules and regulations will be warm and if necessary violators will be expelled from our community.
7 There are no refunds, discounts or specials from our prices and fees.
8 After 360 days stay at our Monastery you can stay for free at your built hermit den - membership has to be current.
9 Monks are free to leave our Monastery at any time - please leave your hermit den in good state - our new monks will appreciate it.
10 Monks are asked to help grow our Monastery by helping us build your new hermit den, and any new task the monastery may need. The time of work for our Monastery is at every monk's discretion.
11 The work for our Monastery can be done between 8:00 AM and we 6:00 PM as it's daylight time. Thank you monks for being part of our monastery and creating this community. You are the vital part of our Monastery! Together we grow stronger.
12 All monks at our Monastery should be self sufficient in all aspects of their life.
13 All monks are allowed to have their RV, Camper or vehicle park at their hermit dens they build. The place of hermit den is chosen by the monk.
14 All monks are responsible for building their hermit dens in safe and esthetic manners. We depend on your good skills, knowledge and professionalism.
15 Quiet time is from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM
16 Every monk is responsible for his/her visitors.
17 All hermit dens are property of the Monastery. All monks that built their hermit dens have their priority to them.

The cactuses are very tough for heat, drout and low temperatures.
Care: Full sun exposure, soil - sandy, gravel light dust, easy to be drain. Do not over water!
